Two pencils on a yellow surface

Hello, and welcome to the Dollars to Cedis blog, a blog dedicated to financial education for everyday Ghanaians.

Here’s a little backstory.

I recently saw someone I’ve known for decades move from career employee to retirement. That would have been exciting news, except for the financial struggles that followed.

But this person is not alone. Many people retire with no retirement plan (financially), and others seem surprised by the financial realities of retirement.

A few of them have been candid enough to share their mistakes with me. As I hear those stories, I know something has to change.

If they had gotten some financial education ten or twenty years before retiring, their fortunes would have been different in retirement.

Worse yet, many people my age – and even older – are walking on a similar path, a path with no light on financial education and strewn with many financial pitfalls. Most will likely go the same route as the struggling retirees.

Truthfully, I would have done the same thing without some financial education I reluctantly gave myself. Why? There’s little financial education out there that suits the Ghanaian context.

And I’m on a mission to change that with the Dollars to Cedis blog. I aim to share some of the personal finance tips I’ve learned over the years. It’s to provide financial education to my younger self and people like me.

If any of this speaks to you, or you’d like to help other people get financial education, you’re more than welcome. You can sign up for our newsletter below and follow Dollars to Cedis on social media. You can also send an email to boateng@dollarstocedis.com
